“Consumers are not the only ones in the dark about how the EU referendum result will affect them; almost two-thirds of marketing professionals are also clueless about how it could affect their business.
According to a survey among Chartered Institute of Marketing members, there is also a wider lack of preparedness on the part of UK firms, with 45% of the marketers surveyed saying they feel the business they work for does not know enough about the consequences of the referendum result.
Some 80% of respondents wanted more information on the impact of new EU laws on areas such as data protection, even though most experts maintain that UK firms will have to adhere to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) even if Brexit wins the day.” – Decision Marketing, June 16th 2016
The outcome of the EU referendum has now been decided, however the concerns raised by this article are very real and the years to come could be make or break for many companies.
Of real concern are the 80% of businesses who feel they lack adequate information on GDPR specifically for UK companies. This is something we echo strongly and are keeping our eyes peeled for any future guidance from the ICO or DMA.
In the meantime, articles such as this pose a number of important questions that are well worth thinking about before May 2018 looms even closer.
